Programmatic SEO Template Inspector Use Cases

Summarize this post with:

The Programmatic SEO Template Inspector Chrome Extension that I launched has so far had about 100 installations. I am grateful for that 🙌

In today’s post, I will share the major use cases you can explore with this extension.

But before that, let’s learn how it even works

How the extension works?

Just load your competitor’s page & click the extension. This will load the extension in the sidebar.

Now, click on the text whose dynamic content template you want to inspect.

As soon as you click on it, it will do two things

1. It will manipulate the DOM to show you the template within the frontend itself

2. In the sidebar, it will generate the dynamic content template text with placeholders that you can click & copy

Here, it will also generate a verdict that says whether it looks Programmatic or not.

The copied template text would look something like what I have shown below

					{h1}
{url_word}, Spreadsheets
{url_word}
{breadcrumb_147}
Put {url_segment_2} to work with AI and {breadcrumb_151}-grade automation

Automate smarter with {url_segment_2} and scale with confidence. Zapier is built for {breadcrumb_151}-grade {breadcrumb_82}, compliance, and performance.

Within the sidebar widget, you can see a button that will allow you to copy the template

There is also a section called “Signals used” This widget tells you about those placeholder dynamic attributes that were used in the template.

Now I understand that placeholders like breadcrumb_151 don’t hold any meaningful significance. This is because it would be difficult or nearly impossible to contextualise the placeholders as the semantics would vary from site to site & what the said sites have injected in their DOM.

The signals used section would help you contextualise this better.

Pro Tip:

Paste the copied template in Diffchecker & original copy text in another tab to see the side by side comparison

In the above Diffchecker example, you can see how Zapier is smartly using a dynamic paragraph template. And you can see what the actual value is versus the placeholders that the extension generated.

1. Dynamic Content Template Research

This is where you can fire up the extension to research on your competitor’s sites to see what kind of Programmatic SEO template they are using. You can gain an understanding of dynamic variables that you can use.

Like how we saw in the diffchecker example, it can give you hints on probable candidates for dynamic variables, like how, in Zapier’s case, it can be an integration tool or a category name.

2. Internal Link Widget Logic Research

internal link widget logic

Here in this example, you can see how we can fire up the extension, click on text & easily see the anchor text linking logic, which can give you ideas about your own website.

Like how in this example, it is about the parent location page linking to other nearby location pages.

Now you can copy this internal link logic template & compare other pages to see if to location changes which can give you hints about radius based internal link widget logic.

This is what you can achieve with this extension acting as your sidekick. This can save you time that was earlier spent researching pSEO template of your competitor or the time that was spent coming up with dynamic variables.
